Biography


 
 
Bill is a native of Battle Creek, Michigan, BA from Alma College and MED from Boston University. His high school and college years include being a varsity athlete, later having a profound influence on his art. He began as a professional artist in 1989. National recognition has been given Williams through his sports art, but his work also includes beautiful oil and pastel portraits.
His paintings are in the permanent collections of the National Baseball Hall of Fame; College Football Hall of Fame; U.S. Military Academy at West Point; U.S. Naval Academy; Butler Institute of American Art; West Michigan Whitecaps; University of Oregon; New York Yankees; David Stern, Commissioner of the National Basketball Association and the Bristol Herald Courier. Commissions include: The 100th Army vs. Navy Football Game; Cal Ripken, Jr.; Darren McCarty, Detroit Red Wings; The Michigan SIDS Alliance; College Football Hall of Fame and the Chicago White Sox. Williams’ art has been made into 38 limited edition print series.
Bill's art education includes studying with Daniel Greene, Larry Blovits, and Paul Leveille. He’s gained inspiration from studying artists in the Louvre, Alte Pinakotek, Prado, Uffizi; NY Metropolitan Museum of Art, The National Gallery in Washington, National Gallery in London and the Chicago Art Institute. He creates his works of art at his studio in Battle Creek.
In 2017, the American Sport Art Museum & Archives, in Daphne, Alabama, selected Williams' as the Sport Artist of the Year, Painter.  He now has two paintings hanging in their permanent collection.
