An example of fine art by Wendy Franklin

Photo of Wendy Franklin

The idea of becoming a painter started early for Wendy G. Franklin. Her family would take trips in a Four Star camper to places like Yosemite, Yellowstone, Puget Sound, and places closer to home on the northern California coast. A love of observing nature began on family trout fishing trips in the mountains and abalone diving trips in Mendocino County. Wendy started with a watercolor set she got as a birthday present and has been painting ever since. She still loves seeing what is over the hill, seeing what’s around the corner, and stopping to paint when inspiration strikes.
At a time when most colleges and universities were not focusing on traditional art education methods; Wendy was lucky to find a professor who understood what it was she was after. She received her B.F.A. in painting from the University of Oregon in 1996. There she learned to draw and paint from direct observation. The landscape is still her main inspiration. Studying early California painters such as William Wendt, Sam Hyde Harris, William Ritschel, and Edgar Payne as well as numerous workshops with Peggi Kroll-Roberts and Ray Roberts has helped her grow as an artist. Wendy considers herself a serious professional student of painting and hopes to spend the rest of her days learning from and painting the great outdoors.
