I was raised in the Bay Area of California, and was drawing and painting by the age of three. Encouraged and supported by wonderful parents and teachers, my  life was happy and full of opportunity to explore the arts, and I graduated from California State University at Chico with a degree in Fine Arts.
In 1972, I traveled to Taipei, Taiwan. When I wasn't teaching English, I was exploring the island and its ancient history of the arts, often painting at an ancient temple, or sketching the bustle of crowded city streets.  At Taipei University I earned a Certificate of Recognition, both in painting and in the study of Chinese painting. In the fall of 1974, I had the opportunity to move to Singapore for a year, and earned a Fine Arts Degree from the Nanyang University of Fine Arts. I also studied the art of Chinese brush painting and participated in several art shows and painting competitions, as well as completing many commissioned pieces.
The following years included postings to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and two years in Guangzhou, China, a place so rich in culture and inspiration that I produced some of my finest work there.  I enjoyed very successful solo art shows in each location.
In 1987, I had the wonderful opportunity to spend two years in Paris, France. Wandering the streets and locations that have inspired some of the world's finest artists, I painted primarily in watercolor and oils, and won second place in the Fine Art Exposition at the Hotel Talleyrand, as well as many other shows and competitions. In 1989, I returned to the U.S., and settled in Washington State, in the charming town of Arlington, where I continue to paint and create.
