Photo of Valerie B Gobeil

Valerie B. Gobeil  has been painting since 2000 and is known primarily for her still lifes. Valerie’s vision and passion is to communicate an idea, an emotion, a moment in life that is personal yet universally understood. Her chiaroscuro style emphasizes the mystery and drama of the bold contrast between light and shadow.
Valerie’s life experiences and many years of living abroad are reflected in her work. She has taught languages in Japan, worked for NATO in Europe, and studied orangutan behavior in the rain forests of Borneo. Her paintings, many based on objects she has collected in her travels, go beyond the visible to narrate the essence of how and why an object arrived at this point in its journey. Her previous experience as a teacher has leant itself naturally to teaching art both in the U.S. and in Canada.
Valerie has studied representational painting with several world-renowned artists at the Scottsdale Art School. She began her art career associated with the Federation of Canadian Artists based in Vancouver, Canada. Upon moving to Arizona, she also became a member of the Oil Painters of America, Portrait Society of America, American Women Artists, and National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society.
Valerie B Gobeil’s artwork has been juried in numerous regional, national and international exhibitions and is collected throughout North America and Europe.
Valerie lives in Arizona with her beloved family and slightly crazy dog, Charlie.
