An example of fine art by Tina Smith

I am a Texas artist who paints in the studio and en plein air (on location). My interest in art started at an early age.  When I was in the sixth grade, our school went on a field trip to the Museum of Art to see a Van Gough exhibit.  This was my first time to see a real painting. I was amazed at the brush work and beautiful colors.  I knew at that moment that I wanted to be an artist.  However, it didn’t happen right away.  I grew up, attended college, majored in accounting and pursued an accounting career for many years. During those years I was always yearning to paint. As my children got older, I began a serious study of art in my spare time, honing my skills by taking workshops with well known artists. I still take workshops with good artists that appeal to me.  Learning is a lifelong adventure. In 1986 I retired from accounting and opened my own art gallery in Mabank Texas, later relocating the gallery to Gun Barrel City, Texas.  After thirteen years, I closed the gallery in order to be able to paint full time.I paint in oils, watercolor and pastel.  In my  paintings, I try to capture a sense of place, mood, light and atmosphere. Although I enjoy painting in the studio, my greatest love is plein air painting.  There is nothing more rewarding than painting  outdoors and enjoying all the beauty that nature has to offer.
My paintings hang in corporate and private collections across the country.AWARDS:Certificate of Recognition Award- From Mayor Wilson Tippet of Gun Barrel City Texas- Joint participation with other artists painting a mural for GBC City Hall- honoring the state of Texas' Sesquicentennial Celebration  1986Winsor Newton Plaque- Excellence in Painting AwardGrumbacher Gold Medallion AwardBest of Show- HCACStrathmore [...]
