Biography


Thomas Mann paints in an impressionistic style, primarily landscapes but also does still lifes, interiors and portraits.  He paints in Oils and Acrylics in plein air and in his studio using his own field studies and photographs as references.  Since moving to Santa Barbara in 2003 he has been an active member of the local art community serving as president of the Santa Barbara Art Association from 2005 to 2006.  He is a member of the Santa Barbara Art Association, Goleta Valley Art Association,  Southern California Artists Painting the Environment (SCAPE),  and the California Art Club.  He studied at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, Long Beach City College and Santa Barbara City College Adult Education.  He has exhibited and won awards in numerous juried shows.  He has taken workshops with Marcia Burtt, (Santa Barbara and Italy), Ken Auster, ( Laguna Beach), John Comer, (Santa Barbara), Scott L. Christensen, (Idaho), Randall Sexton, (Santa Barbara), Ray Roberts, (Santa Barbara), Jean Legassick, (Lake Tahoe), Frank Serrano, (Eastern Sierras), and numerous others.  His work can be found in many private collections in the United States and abroad.
