I have been painting with pastels since 1998 when I first took a pastel class through Adult Education at Santa Barbara City College.   I have always been enthralled with making marks on paper and I majored in art at the University of California at Santa Barbara earning my bachelor’s degree in Art.  My father told me when I decided to major in Art in college that “everything in the world is Art”, from the desk you sit at to the masterpiece on the wall.   Art surrounds us everywhere.  Though I made a living as a registered nurse for 25 years I’ve continued drawing and painting throughout my life.
Pastel is my media of choice.   I find that sticking to one media helps me to master that media and also feel the freedom to push the media in different directions without feeling lost.  I love that pastels are brilliant colors and lovely to look at.   They are easy to transport and keep compact allowing me to paint outdoors in my favorite environment, the landscape.   I am passionate about our Earth and all that our planet provides for us.   I feel relevant and privileged to document the world we live in through painting and I want to continue doing this important work. 
I am grateful to the teachers who have taught and inspired me while I continue my journey into this art world and into myself.   They include Richard McKinley, Bert Collins and Barbara Jaenicke to name a few.  I am grateful to the many friends I’ve made in my local art community and through social media.   I have learned much from other artist’s work in person and on the internet. 
I am a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast and an Associate member of the Pastel Society of America.  I belong [...]
