An example of fine art by Suzanne Smith

Photo of Suzanne Smith

Recognized for her artistic achievements at an early age, Suzanne Lavone Smith has produced commissioned artwork throughout her life and has continued to study art independently with many of today's most noted masters. She has an intense interest in portraiture and has been driven to become skilled in alla prima techniques, painting quickly from life with highly accurate results. Some portraits, including pet subjects, require working from suitable photographs which allows time for more refined realism. When asked how long a portrait from life takes to produce, Suzanne paraphrases a common artist's answer, "40 years and several hours".
Suzanne's work has won numerous awards in juried exhibitions. For the 2015 and 2016 competitions, her submitted portraits have been selected to be among the "Top Ten in Tennessee" by the Portrait Society of America. Another portrait received the top award for works on canvas from the New York-based National Association of Women Artists. Her commissioned portraits are on display in academic, medical and corporate environments as well as private collections. Whether working in oils, pastels or charcoal, Suzanne consistently captures the essence of the subject, producing an heirloom quality portrait.
Suzanne believes it is her responsibility to share with others what she has learned by teaching and volunteering for educational art organizations. She currently serves as an Advisory Board member for the Portrait Society of Atlanta after serving that nonprofit organization for over 20 years in various volunteer positions, including President from 2001-03. For most of the past decade Suzanne has been teaching weekly art classes and occasional workshops. Please inquire for more information.
