The Artist Says:

The crystalline prismatic Maine light affecting water and form are of primary interest to artist Suzanne Savage Brewer. A Maine native, Suzanne draws from a life of living within her muse. Standing at her easel she connects to the energy of each location bringing forth that quality which makes each place unique.
Suzanne takes extended trips to the areas she wants to paint in order to dig down on location. Two places of strong inspiration are the Katahdin Region in and around Baxter State Park and Vinalhaven Island. In addition to studio work she enjoys working on location “en plein air” year round. It is this full body experience of being on location working in the elements that bring authenticity and energy to her work.
In 2012 Suzanne was awarded Baxter State Park’s Visiting Artist Residency. She participates in several plein air events each year and in 2014 received an honorable mention award at the Castine Plein Air Festival. Her work has been shown in group and solo shows in Maine galleries and is in collections across the US.

Dealers Say:

“Stunning beauty is all around us here in Maine but, once in a while, there is a rare artistic talent that emerges that resonates with and can communicate that beauty.  Suzanne Savage Brewer is one of those talents, a native of Island Falls, trained in flawless technique and driven with a passion to investigate Maine's rare beauty.”

Growing up in Maine's Aroostook County gave me time to explore and contemplate the beautiful world around me. I have a vivid memory from when I was about 5 years old of crawling under the low hanging branches of a white cedar tree to lay in a patch of varigated bishops weed carpeting the ground there. The afternoon sun broke though in patches contrasting against the shadows from the branches of the tree above.  It was a simple yet profound moment.
Like many artists, I started drawing and painting at an early age. My parents indulged my tendencies and encouraged my efforts. Adult life brought with it responsibilities, marriage, raising a wonderful son and a career in home design. In 2011 I closed my home design business to become a fine artist full time. Painting under my maiden name " Savage", I work in oil and watercolor depicting the coast and inland scenes of Maine. Often I work  "en plein air" striving to capture one beautiful moment in time.
" Maine is a gift that keeps giving. Her rugged beauty fills my soul and loads my paintbrush."  Suzanne Savage Brewer
