Biography

Artist’s Statement
I find such beauty and restoration in natural landscapes whether from a macro perspective or a more focused look at elements such as trees, clouds or flowers. As an emerging Canadian painter, I’ve been exploring both abstract realist and representational approaches as I strive to convey the natural beauty that moves me.
My hope is that others might also discover restorative experiences through my work. I paint in watercolour and acrylic mediums using traditional materials, including a variety of papers, canvases, brushes, and colour schemes and palettes.
Commissions are welcome. I find it meaningful and rewarding to help fulfill a client’s vision. I also welcome contact from other painters, students, and art enthusiasts.

Biography
Susan Young has a longstanding interest in the visual arts, having studied and practiced the art of photography most of her life. Drawing inspiration from nature, Susan has been painting landscape and floral art in watercolour and acrylic mediums since 2018.
Growing up in Parry Sound, Ontario, Susan developed an enduring love for the complex beauty of nature. She feels connected to the exquisitely rugged landscapes of Georgian Bay-its signature windswept pines, 30,000 islands, vibrant fall foliage, and contrasting layers of rock along the shores.
Susan is fascinated by reflections as well as the effects of wind. She’s currently enjoying experimenting with the interplay of light and shadow.
Following an early career in the travel industry, Susan completed her degree in Medical Rehabilitation (Physical Therapy) at the University of Manitoba. She lives with her family in Winnipeg, and works full-time as a Physiotherapist.
Susan is largely self-taught as an artist, and has taken courses with established Winnipeg artists such as Ruth Kamenev, Michel ST Hilaire, and Guy St. Godard. She is a member of the Cre8ery Gallery and Studio in Winnipeg and looks forward to displaying some of her art in the coming year.
