The Artist Says:

When I left my career in health care, I wondered how I would continue to "do my part."   I've come to recognize that art is its own therapy--certainly for me, and for those who collect art, or for those who simply love to look at it.

As a plein air artist I am often afforded privileges of access that I otherwise would not have, and while I paint I make the acquaintance of the people who own the land, or are trustees of the land I'm painting.  I'm honored to know the history of most of the places I've painted, and to have experienced the love of the land that its owners have.  I too love it--and I endeavor to capture that in my paintings.

This summer, as I was at the first late-in-the-season summer art event (due to Covid 19 precautions), I had a wall of paintings up at our ArtMarket.  As potential (masked) buyers came by, they looked, and stopped, and then really looked.  I heard comments like "These paintings are taking me to places I've needed to go all year---thank you."

I humbly invite you to my world.  These paintings have their own histories--borne of sunsets, moving water, winged visitors, passing trucks, trains, planes, drones, cows and steers keeping an eye on me for hours--you name it.

Biography

When I left my career in health care, I wondered how I would continue to "do my part."   I've come to recognize that art creates its own path of wellness--certainly for me, and for those who collect art, or for those who simply love to look at it.

During college I studied interior design, art, art history, drawing, and all of the technical aspects of design in addition to my anatomy and physiology  classes.  I have taken countless professional workshops with "masters" in painting in all mediums, and continue to study and learn today.  I like to describe creating a piece of art in this way, "It's like putting a puzzle together, or solving a mystery.  Thousands of decisions occur from start to finish, starting with the large vision, and working down to the smallest of strokes.  Everything I've ever learned about painting is present in each piece of art."

On plein air painting:   Plein air festivals are part of each summer.  They are crazy, fast, compelling and competitive, exhausting and fun.  As a plein air artist I am often afforded privileges of access that I otherwise would not have, and while I paint I sometimes make the acquaintance of the people who own the land, or are trustees of the land I'm painting.  I'm honored to know the history of most of the places I've painted, and to have experienced the love of the land that its owners have.  I too love it--and I endeavor to capture that in my paintings.

Skydance Gallery is my own studio gallery.  Visits are by appointment.
