The Artist Says:

When I paint I loose all track of time. I escape into the details of my painted world.

Susan Frech-Sims graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor's of Fine Art degree.  She was born and raised in Northwest Oklahoma and lives there still.  She was a stay-at-home mom off and on for 15 years but continued to work on her drawings and acrylic paintings entering a few competitions now and then.  Once her children were old enough she started pursuing her art full time again and with her family's full support she opened her studio/gallery in 2013.  She began to study watercolor, oil, and dry-brushed oil techniques and found she loved them too.  Susan credits her love of art and talent from a family of artists.  She would watch her father draw detailed birds, her paternal grandmother painted landscapes, and her maternal grandfather painted oil portraits and seascapes.  Her great-grandfather was a sculptor, and her great-aunt was a marketing illustrator.  Her three sisters also paint and write.  Her sister, Heidi Vanlandingham, is a published writer. She credits her parents for always encouraging her and her sisters to follow their dreams and their talents; and later, her husband and sons who always inspired and encouraged her to keep painting.
Susan's work has appeared in Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" 2009 calendar, North Light Book's "Strokes of Genius 8", and illustrated Arlene Adams "Neoisms and Other Stuff!: Reflections of a Nurse".  She has also been in several juried art shows as well as several online juried art shows, such as The International Artist Magazine 2017 Landscape competition, winning 3rd place. Kudos Art Competition and Light Space & Time Competition.
Susan paints in many mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolor, dry-brushed oil drawings, and pencils.  She loves to paint just about any subject but portraits and animals are her favorites. She also paints landscapes, architectural and garden scenes, florals, and nebula inspired paintings.  Realism is her [...]
