I first started painting as a senior in college (1971), but took an extended hiatus from painting while my wife and I raised a family and I pursued a career in industry.  With our two boys grown and on their own, I picked up the brushes again in 2008.  
My education and background is not at all typical for an artist.  I have a BS in Chemical Engineering from Rutgers University and an MBA in Operations Management also from Rutgers.  Although this background may seem like an odd education for an artist, remember that Leonardo Da Vinci was an engineer as well as a formidable artist.  I believe that engineering and art can be complementary.
I live in Reston, Virginia with Sandy, my wife and partner of 44 years.  In 2008, I retired from a 37 ½ year career with ExxonMobil and am now devoting my attention to art on a full time basis.  I like this “right brain” journey for the second half of my life after a “left brain” career in industry.
Landscapes in oil and more recently acrylics have been my primary subjects and medium over the past several years but I have also done still lives and portraits.  I have taken various painting and drawing courses with some very excellent instructors at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria.  Several of my landscape works have been accepted in juried shows including The Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia (Aug '09), the Young at Art Show in Alexandria (Oct '09) and the Treasury of Art Show in Vienna, Virginia (Nov '09, Nov’10, Nov ’11, Nov’12, Nov ‘13) the Rittenhouse Fine Art Show in Philadelphia (Sept’10), and the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival in Reston (May ’11).  I have also been invited to show my work at the Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg and several times at [...]
