I came from a family of art lovers. my mother and grandmother were portrait painters and my father took me to some of the best museums in the US and Europe. Although I got my formal training at Spring Hill College, The Art Students League, and University of Georgia graduate school, my mother was my best teacher. She opened a neighborhood children's art studio in our back yard when I was quite young and there I learned the basics of painting.
My husband Skeeter and I live on Mobile Bay where we raised most of our six children. We have ten grandchildren and expect many more.
I have been painting portraits on commission for many years and recently have discovered the joy of "plein air" painting. Now that we're empty nesters I have more time to paint and have never enjoyed it more.
Although Mobile is my main market, my portraits hang in homes throughout the Southeast and as far away as Vancouver and England.
I love painting faces. It is such a privilege to have people sit for me. One of my most rewarding experiences was doing portrait sketches of the women at Metro Jail. I felt that God gave me a gift to bypass all the problems and brokenness and see the beauty of their souls, to see them as He sees them. That is the main joy of this gift; Seeing the beauty and calling it forth.
