My artwork takes both a micro and macro point of view. My goal as an artist is to explore details while keeping in mind the entirety of environment.
I look for intriguing colors and shapes in a costume or piece of jewelry, then expand them into a larger, grander space and composition. With this expansion, minuscule details seem almost galactic in scale, and a cluster of sequins can become an entire universe.
My portraits follow a similar technique but work in the opposite direction. I use astronomical elements such as nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters to create a vast panorama of color and depth. Pinpointing a single human in such an enormous space allows them to become the significant detail in a much larger environment.
By examining both the minutia and the immense, I hope to remind viewers to consider more deeply their own position in our universe.
