My first formal painting experience was China Painting.  Carol, my friend, gave me a china painting book and transportation to class while I was recovering for many months from a major car accident.  Her encouragement and mentoring introduced me to the world of painting.  I am thankful that she was so caring. After earning three formal degrees and working at several different but related careers for many years, I semi-retired.  Then, in May 2012, I retired from working.  Now I can devote all of my time to painting and creating art.  My art instructor is Deanna Nash.  She provides challenging exercises, feedback and has helped me experiment with new mediums.  After working with watercolors for a year, I started exploring pastels.  Pastels combine well with watercolors and as an individual medium.  Mixed Media was a natural next step.I am studying Encaustic Painting with Lisa Sisley-Binn.  I have tried to capture the essence of these works for this website, but the total effect must be seen in person to appreciate the textures, dimensionality, and colors!Another friend, Vicky, suggested that I use some of my vast collection of “ephemera” in my paintings.  My husband and I have traveled over a great deal of the world and of course I am a collector of “stuff”.  So I have begun to incorporate the ephemera in collage works and encaustic paintings.  A good excuse to collect more stuff!
