Artist Stacy Erickson

An example of fine art by Stacy Erickson

Photo of Stacy Erickson

Stacy Erickson moved to Santa Fe from Austin, Texas many years ago to be part of the vibrant community of artists in Northern New Mexico.  The wide expanses of land  and sky lead her to paint landscapes evocative of the high desert environment.  Originally a trained realist, she has shifted to a more expressive style that better represents her passion for the natural surroundings.  Although she always based her large studio paintings on outdoor studies, sketches and photographs, she is a recent convert to the "plein air circuit" and has begun to accrue awards and recognition for the immediacy of her work and her lively brushwork.  She is a member of Outdoor Painters Society, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico and Colorado Plein Air Painters.
Travel has always been a big part of her life.  She has lived in Peru and worked in Bolivia and Guatemala.  She spent a year traveling Asia on a bicycle and has trekked the Himalayas on many long adventures, including Kanchenjunga base camp and the Annapurna loop.  She has studied Buddhism with the Dalai Lama and recently earned her yoga teaching certificate in Rishikesh, India.  This fall she will be off to Laos, Thailand and India for a plein air painting trip.
She has a BA in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas, a BFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute and has studied at the Universidad Catolica in Lima and La Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City.   Her work has been featured in numerous museums and institutions including the Tyler Museum of Art, Laguna Gloria Art Museum, Grace Museum and San Angelo Museum, as well as collections throughout Texas.
She has a frisky Kerry Blue Terrier named Fionula and a 1955 Comet camper named Haley.
