Different styles and media are the result of my exploratory approach to art.   Curiosity drives me to learning new techniques and often leads me to inventing new approaches.   When I was in my young twenties and living in a small apartment, I invented water soluble oils before they were even available on the market.  This invention was out of necessity.  In those days, turpentine was the only solvent used for oil painting. That presented a health problem in my small apartment so if I wanted to paint, I had to find a solution to the problem.
My experimental approach allows for any subject, media, or method to become part of the process. Design and composition are the prevailing constants in my work.   Nature as a superior designer is a constant source of inspiration for my creations.
After graduating from teacher education at the University of Edmonton, and from the College of Art in Calgary, I developed and implemented art programs for Alberta’s Ministry of Culture at community centres across the province.  Alberta’s Minister of Culture presented me with a special merit award for that service.
I later returned to the University of Calgary to complete my Bachelor of Education degree with an Art Major, and registered into the Master’s program.  It was there that as a sessional instructor, I taught courses in Design and Pottery at the University of Calgary.  During this time, I was also teaching Art at a High School full time as well as being instrumental in designing an art curriculum for Alberta Junior High Schools.  While at the University of Calgary, my pottery and sculpture were exhibited at an International Competition for Artistic Ceramics in Faenza, Italy.
