Hi! My name is Shuchi Muley and I am a representational oil painter living in San Francisco, California. In my paintings, I love capturing the moments in our everyday life. This could be the sweet giggle of a baby, or his/her toothless smile, or their laugh when a parent caresses them. To capture the freshness of this moment, I always prefer painting from life. I start with color studies and sometimes use photographs to implement my idea.
I have an engineering background and hence to get a formal training in classical drawing/painting I have studied under artist Sadie Valeri at Sadie Valeri Atelier for two years. It is an Art Renewal Center (ARC) certified school and provides quality education under some highly talented artists. Under Sadie's guidance, I studied still life drawing and painting for two years and learned Flemish Technique of indirect oil painting using the Grisaille method.
In 2014, I traveled to France to study figure drawing and painting with artists Timothy Stotz and Michelle Tully at Studio Escalier. Every day, for a year, I spent half of my day learning at their studio and the remaining at the Louvre Museum copying works of Renaissance artists. I was such an amazing experience to study works of the old masters and to learn about their techniques and brushwork. Recently, I also got a chance to learn under artist Michelle Dunaway, who had a huge impact on me and my work.
I have exhibited in national and International shows, including the Royal Watercolor Society of United Kingdom, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath in India, and Sztuka Wyboru gallery in Poland. In 2016, I have also worked as a painter for the movie "Loving Vincent,” which was nominated for the Oscars.
