In the summer of 1995, Andreas Karlstetter was finishing his internship at the Oberpfaelzer Kuenstlerhaus (OK) in Schwandorf, Germany and would be moving to Nuremberg in autumn to study at the prestigious Akademie der Bildenden Kuenste. The Kuenstlerhaus was preparing for the arrival of two American artists who had each won an 8-week residency at the OK through a competition sponsored by the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in America. One of those artists was Shoshanna Ahart from Washington, DC. "When I exited baggage claim, there was Andreas holding a sign with my name on it".
It was art that brought them together and after 8 years of a long distance relationship between Nuremberg and Washington, when Andreas procured a position at Gabrieli-Gymnasium (high school for the arts), Shoshanna moved across the Atlantic.  Together in Eichstaett they established the Ahart Atelier in 2003 and their gallery in 2015. Sharing their work and their love of Art through exhibiting and teaching continues to be at the core of their life together.
