In all things of nature, there is something of the marvelous. -- Aristotle
Sheridan's work celebrates the lush, varied beauty of nature-- its boundless array of creatures, flowers, fruits, and plants, each its own masterpiece. While they vary in subject and mood, her paintings share a fresh, classic quality that speaks of joy and elegance.
Her most recent work, the Menagerie Series, a collection of representational animal portraits featured on reflective, patterned backgrounds, is a departure from her earlier work of still lifes and florals painted from life in the alla prima style. Some of the pieces in the series have silver oil paint while others have genuine silver leaf applied in the background. For both, the reflective qualities of the silver interacting and changing with the light add dimension to the subjects and seem to amplify the play of light on their forms. Reading as light or dark depending on the viewer's vantage point, the overlaid patterns create unique, at times, ethereal moods that differ with each painting, highlighting the tension between the realism of the animal figures and the abstract, elemental environment of their backgrounds. Sheridan's paintings hang in art collections throughout the country.
