Setsuko Yoshida is a native of Japan. Her hometown is Kyoto,
which is famous for it's traditional culture, old beautiful shrines, and temples.
She enjoyed playing in nature, visiting shrines & temples as a child.
Her parents were engaged with the domestic textile industry.
They were artisans of weaving Obi, which is tied around the waist
when dressing Kimono, a traditional dress.
Setsuko was fascinated to see the beautiful colors and designs of Obi
in her childhood.
She believes this influenced her artistic sense, and her love of art
has been continuing ever since.
Setsuko studied fine art in Kyoto University of education
and taught fine art in junior high schools for ten years.
She moved to the U.S.A. with her family 18 years ago and
has been painting with watermedia since then.
She loves watermedia because of its fluidity and transparency.
Her favorite artists are Van Gogh, Georgia O'keeffe,
Raoul Dufy, Henri Matisse, David Hockney and Tohaku Hasegawa.
