Biography

Scott started carving wood and soap stone with hand tools thirty plus years ago.   His passion for large carvings lead him to chainsaw carvings, and large snow and Ice competions.    To date Scott has won the State chainsaw carving title twice, as well as two National Snow carving titles.    He started painting later in life mostly so he could add splashes of color to his carvings.  Over time he fell in love with painting two dimensional pieces and, in 2004, released his first limited edition prints. Most of Scott's work is wildlife, as as he is an outdoorsman, bowhunter, fisherman, and general wild places enthusiast. His works are his best efforts to capture moments in the outdoors, a window to a moment in time.  As you explore this site, you will see murals, large snow carvings, a hand carved, working carousel, and many large public artworks. Today, with his wife Joan, they own a Gallery in Willow, Alaska,  Willow Creek Studio.   For twenty plus years the studio was in a hand made log cabin on Willow Creek several miles off the the highway to Denali park, and sitting on 500 plus feet of prime Alaskan salmon stream.   In 2011 the Thompsons bought a log building on the Parks highway at mile post 69.5 and opened thier own gallery.   Today that gallery has 40 plus local artists and craftsman from the greater Willow area.   It is stocked with originals and prints from some of the areas best artists as well as a healthy offering of Man Cave or cabin decor.   Log furniture, crafts, local gifts,  wood bowls, pottery, and furs from the area.    Willow Creek studio remains the only place that Scott's own works can be found ranging from giant chainsaw carvings to paintings, carved signs, and all sorts of cabin decor.
