Sandra studied drawing, design, and art history at Bowling Green State University in Ohio some years ago. In 1996,  she began taking art classes at the AAAC (Ann Arbor Art Center) and the BBAC (West Bloomfield and Birmingham Art Center). She thoroughly enjoyed classes in color theory and acrylics (taught by Leslie Masters), watercolor (Chris Unwin), pastel landscape and portraits (Jim Markle), drawing, head & figure clay sculpture, plein-air painting, and still-life painting (Diane Rath).  However, after taking oil portrait/still-life workshops from artist David Weaver of West Virginia, Sandra began to focus on portraiture in oils, satisfying her enchantment with the human face. She joined the Portrait Society of America and regularly attends their annual conference.Sandra continues to practice and study her craft.  Most recently, she studied figurative painting with Daniel Gerhartz at his Wisconsin studio and C. Michael Dudash at his Pennsylvania studio.  She attended a David Leffel portrait/still-life workshop, and Scott Christensen landscape/plein air intensive and advanced workshops.  She has taken workshops from talented, successful portrait artists: Larry Blovits (Michigan), Robert Maniscalco (South Carolina), Michael Shane Neal (Tennessee), and most recently, Dawn Whitelaw (Tennessee) and Everett Raymond Kinstler (New York). Her work has been exhibited in juried and non-juried shows around the area, such as Our Town In Birmingham, the Livonia annual show, and the Michigan Fine Arts.  Sandra regularly shows with the Ann Arbor Women Artists' exhibitions.  The Treeline Gallery in Sutton Bay, MI has exhibited her plein air paintings.  Sandra also had solo shows at the Livonia Civic Center and at the Michigan League in Ann Arbor. In 2008, Sandra started teaching oil painting with the Ann Arbor Community Recreation and Education and has a following of continuing students.  She also regularly paints with a group of artists in Novi, MI.
