After many years in the arts as a watercolorist and printmaker, learning to use pastels has been of great excitement to me. I love the immediacy of the medium and especially their portability, as I try to embrace plein aire works. Landscapes are always challenging and, as I strive to find some new angle to portray the wonders of the world around me, both in Monterey and France, I am exhilerated by this fresh new way to capture what I see.
Biography of the Artist Born in Evanston, Illinois, she is married and has two sons and five grandchildren. Rowan has spent her adult life in California, first in the Los Angeles area and currently on the Monterey Peninsula. While living in Southern California she became a familiar name on the West Coast as a competetive watercolorist and intaglio printmaker.  She was a member of Women Painter's West and has been a Signature Member of Watercolor West since 1982. She was hung in the Traveling Show of National Watercolor Society in 1992, where her painting was awarded the Past President's Award.  In 1996, her work was sent to New York and hung in the American Watercolor Show.
After successfully owning and operating her own printmaking studio, she acquired her Bachelor's degree at California State University, Northridge, followed by a Master's degree at Loyola Marymount University. She then became a Licensed Marraige and Family Therapist and Registered and Board Certified Art Therapist and was in private practice for several years, but still kept her hand in at making her own art. At this time she found the new medium of pastel and the joys of plein aire work.
