As a youngster growing up on Long Island in New York Ron drew and painted pictures of sailing ships, rockets and airplanes, typical subjects for a young boy. Ron's many family camping and fishing trips to the beautiful lakes and streams of upstate New York instilled in him a love of nature and this was reflected in many colorful tempera landscape paintings done from his imagination. Although Ron continued to practice drawing and painting informally he didn't take his art skills or interest seriously until his discharge from the Air Force in 1970 when, following his family's move to California, he entered Los Angeles Valley College as an art major. Ron eventually earned a masters degree in painting from California State University Northridge along with a Community College Teaching Credential. After a period of trying to become a successful minimalist/non-objective painter, the then current art movement and default path for an aspiring university art student, Ron began a career in advertising to support his family, eventually establishing his own aerospace client focused ad agency in 1983 which he closed in 2010 to pursue his fine art interests.
Parallel to his advertising career Ron continued to teach drawing, design and painting at the community college level. In 2003 Ron was hired as an adjunct instructor at Cal State Northridge teaching drawing and composition classes from beginning to graduate student levels. The closing of the ad agency and the new teaching assignments gave Ron the freedom to return to his representational drawing and painting roots, his art had come full circle. The focus of Ron's current work is painting and drawing of the landscape and the human figure.
