Biography

Rob Bavier grew up on the water. As the son of America's Cup skipper Bob Bavier, some of Rob's earliest memories are of racing on Long Island Sound and cruising the ever changing coast of Maine. Summers were spent racing Blue Jays and then Lightnings. Later on he added racing in the Block Island Race, Vineyard Race, Off Soundings, Storm Trysail and Block Island Race Week. The changing moods of the sea always fascinated him and are reflected in his art. Glassy calms with a few cat's paws playing across the surface, fierce Nor'Easters with sputum blowing off the wave tops, the isolation of a sunrise in a secluded cove in Maine, the frenzy of a 100 boat start at Larchmont Race Week all provide inspiration for his art.
Trained as an architect, Rob started doing watercolor renderings of his designs and then branched out into watercolors as an art form. He added acrylics and oils as alternative mediums and now switches back and forth as the subject matter and mood dictates. His paintings have received "Best In Show" and "Best Watercolor" at juried exhibits. Some of the jurors comments include: "Softly creeps into your view and keeps you coming back again and again, Soon I'll have sand in my shoes" and "I want to keep looking at it. The salt water has sprayed on my face". He was invited by the Marlborough Arts Center to present a eight week one man show titled "Sea Change" featuring his work. Rob is a member of the Oil Painters of America and Vice President of the Seabrook Island Artist Guild.

Rob currently lives on Seabrook Island, SC and as added Lowcountry scenes to those up and down the eastern seaboard, depicting the world of water and boats from the vantage point of beaches, rocky points and boats.
