Biography
Welcome! My name is Rika Dehombreux, founder of Glowing Roots. I was born in Belgium under the sign Gemini. I grew up in the countryside close to nature and among wonderful storytellers in my village. Since early childhood I have treasured fairy tale books, drawing materials and play dough. Up to the present my favourite media are pencils, paints and paper. My fascination for art, philosophy, myths and legends from different parts of the world and especially of ancient civilizations have in 2002 led to me obtaining a Masters degree in Art History & Archaeology at the Free University of Brussels, Belgium. I have studied with several artists I admire and I continue to develop my skills through research and practice. I obtained my Diploma in Drawing and Painting in 2013 and my Diploma in Watercolors in 2015 from the distance-learning program with the London Art College. My work is intuitively created in pencil, paint or mixed media after taking a moment in order to clear my mind. It is reflecting hope, tenderness, enchantment and happiness and is echoing the purity of a child's wonder. After a piece is completed I look for possible interpretations and explanations and this in itself inspires me to make more art. I enjoy researching different mythological and legendary traditions and their symbols. I believe that my images are open to further interpretation and symbolic refinement. I would describe myself as a creator of beauty and magic in the cosmic journey of life.
