Rey Ford was born and raised in Kentucky, though he has made his home in Colorado since 1993.  He grew up in Owensboro, a city boy with country habits, and returned to the area after graduating from Western Kentucky University.  He bought a small farm there and began a thirty-year creative adventure that continues today.

At the same time Rey channeled his creativity into the full pursuit of breeding, raising, and working with horses (and caring for his two daughters) on his ranch in rural Colorado, he also pursued his skills and gifts as an artist.  Over the years Rey has studied with such artists as David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw, Jacqueline Kamin, Jeff Legg,  Greg Kreutz,  Larry Wheeler, Josh Fallik, Kim English, Jill Soukup,  and attended workshops at the American Academy of Equine Art, the Scottsdale Artists School and the Art Students League of Denver.  Countless hours of study and practice have culminated in Rey winning several awards including the prestigious "Best Mastery of Medium and Technique" at the Art Students League of Denver's 2012 Summer Art Market.  He currently paints and teaches painting to others at his studio in Longmont, Colorado.

Asked why he paints, Rey says, "When I pick up the brush, I step into the unknown.  Every painting is an evolution, a process of discovery that asks me to trust the mystery of seeing.  Wholeness is there, gratefulness is there--painting is what feeds my soul.  It teaches me how to live."
