Biography

RENÉE KELLEHER

Renée has lived in Santa Barbara and  Santa Ynez Valley for the past 50 years. The area is rich with daily inspiration from the ocean and mountain views of Santa Barbara to the rolling ranch land and hillside vineyards of the valley. These beautiful surroundings, as well as those of France, Italy,  Mexico , and the big city skylines and energy of New York City, have captured her enthusiasm. Her style is impressionistic realism inspired by Monet, Sargent, and Schmid. Though she enjoys watercolor and ink sketches,  she primarily paints in oils. She says, "I have always been fascinated by the play of light and shadow. When the light path on something familiar catches my eye, it is as if I am seeing it for the first time. I am inspired to capture the moment with my paintbrush. If my viewers are able to experience that moment in my painting, I feel that I have successfully expressed myself."

Renee began her formal art education while in high school when she was accepted into the  California College of Arts and Crafts where she received high honors.  She went on to the University of Puget Sound where she furthered her art studies. She has also studied at the Scottsdale Artists School and at the Art Students League of New York City. There are many wonderful professional artists whose workshops she has attended including Jove Wang, Matt Smith,  Karl Dempwolf, Gerald Brommer, Marilyn Simandle, and Michael Drury. Robin Hall opened her Laguna Beach studio for a week of  Intensive instruction and painting challenges, as well. While living in NYC,  Renee studied under Garin Baker, painting NYC at night.

Over the years, her artwork has been represented by Newmasters Gallery, Carmel, California, Waterhouse Gallery, Santa Barbara, California,  Cody Gallery in Los Olivos, California, and [...]
