Reena Bates is an emerging Easton, MA artist, born in Cleveland, OH and raised in many places from coast to coast. Her family moved 9 times during her childhood finally settling in Augusta, ME for 8 years before moving to Sausalito, CA.  From six to sixteen, Reena was always the new girl and found solace in drawing as she sought to mark and depict her constantly changing environment. After high school graduation, she returned to the east coast and attended Boston College where she met her husband of 32 years. She majored in Economics, not art. In fact, any artistic endeavor was put aside for many years. In the late 90s Reena left her full time job with a Boston insurance company to be a stay home parent for the couple's 2 children. Her husband  encouraged her to take a drawing class at a local museum which eventually led to a foray in watercolor.  Reena enjoyed watercolor painting sporadically over 10 years, completing several watercolor commissions. Unfortunately, art was put aside again to work part time and focus on her family.

As their children approached college years there was freedom to think about art again and set personal goals. Fast forward to 2017. A New Year’s resolution to find new purpose and immerse herself in art led Reena to join a local art association where she met North Attleboro, MA artist Matt Miller (former student of David Leffel and Sherrie McGraw ). Drawing was the initial interest but she was encouraged to try oil painting. A creative connection was forged and inspiration instilled.  Reena currently shares a studio with Matt Miller and works diligently to bring her painting to the highest level.

When not painting, the artist plays classical piano,  runs and practices yoga  to keep herself grounded.
