Biography

Rebekkah Jackson spent an idyllic childhood on a Colorado farm. With sketch pad in hand, she captured a world of horses, broken barns, flat windswept fields and various members of her odd but interesting family. Later she continued to hone her craft even while working and raising a family. Now, after many years she is able to devote more time painting and developing her skills. "I am primarily an oil painter with an emphasis on painting en Plein air but my first love was pastels. I believe that my years using pastels made me a better oil painter. My method consists of recognizing what it is about the scene that makes me want to paint it. This then becomes my focal point. I tend to work in a very unstructured way with large wide strokes that overlap. This process produces dramatic backgrounds. I then finish with palette knives which gives the painting movement, structure and some very nice areas of pure color. I thoroughly enjoy the process of painting and am especially drawn to painting water in the landscape." Rebekkah's art education has consisted of some classes and workshops but she prefers learning from her fellow painters. She has had pastels juried into National Shows and her oil paintings have been accepted into several shows as well as the 2013 and 2015 Plein Air Painters of Colorado Annual exhibitions, the 2014 Colorado Governor's Art Show and the 2016 Greeley National Exhibition where she was awarded first in oils. She is a past Board Member of the Pastel Society of Colorado, a member of Plein Air Artists of Colorado, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, Women Artists of the West and the Oil Painters of America.
