Artist Randall Stauss

An example of fine art by Randall Stauss

Born and raised near Portland, Oregon, Randall Stauss started painting at an early age.  Encouraged by
his parents, he began taking painting lessons at the Portland Art Museum.  The weekly trips to the museum
with its huge rooms, long marble steps, and stunning works of master painters, made a strong and enduring
impression on the young artist.  A few years later, his family relocated to Corvallis in the heart of the Willamette Valley,
where he attended Oregon State University and the University of Oregon.
Moving to Lake Tahoe in 1980, Stauss began to paint seriously, while supporting himself hand lettering custom boat names.
Focusing on watercolors for many years, Stauss submitted a series of pumpkin patch paintings to the National Watercolor Society, and was accepted as a signature member.
During the 1990s, Stauss became fascinated with oil painting, pursuing the same themes as his watercolor work.  He and his wife
Edith now spend half the year in San Rafael CA and the summer months on Lake Tahoe's North Shore.
'I am both a studio and plein air painter.  But truth be told, it is plein air that is the crown jewel. Seemingly endless benefits befall the outdoor artist, not the least of which is an expanded sense of presence at the place one has so carefully and intuitively chosen.'
