Artist Statement
R.C. Mowry is an artist working in a variety of media: oil, acrylic, pastel, lettering, carving, and assemblage. Russ works on multiple pieces simultaneously moving from work to work as the process strikes him. His creative inspiration usually starts with a simple concept or idea but then moves forward in energy and complexity as the piece takes shape. While he admires the concept of painting en plein air and still tries his hand at it now and again, his studio works often move far beyond what the eye can see.  Russ works out of a studio in his renovated barn in Candia, NH but has traveled extensively throughout the United States and around the world for both work and play. He is especially moved by the storied expanse of the Western hills of Wyoming, South Dakota and Montana and by the changing tides off the coast of Maine.  Mowry’s rich life experiences may add a seasoned timbre to his canvas but he is just as excited about this late chapter in his life doggedly pursuing his muse as he was of any of his earlier professions and pursuits.

Moved back to NJ and worked as a corporate helicopter pilot. Highlights include flying Ronald Reagan and the Rolling Stones. On the ground, built a house, raised three wonderful children and for fun, [...]
