An example of fine art by Phyllis Tarlow Portraits

Photo of Phyllis Tarlow Portraits

Phyllis has been working professionally as an artist since the mid-1980’s after years spent developing as an artist while raising two children.  Beginning her career with stints in commercial art and graphic design, she gradually turned towards illustration.  When the market for illustration became more and more computer-oriented, Phyllis found herself unwilling to move away from hands on work using traditional methods and materials. Instead, she found a very compatible place for those skills in the areas of  portraiture and fine art. Nowadays, she moves between her commissioned portrait work and the oil landscapes she paints en plein air and in the studio.
Bringing the skills she developed as an illustrator working in a variety of mediums to her work in portraiture, Phyllis continues to create portraits in oil, watercolor, graphite pencils and pen & ink.
The artist exhibits work at Images Gallery, Briarcliff Manor, NY, The Flatiron Gallery, Peekskill, NY, and Bannerman Island Gallery, Beacon, NY. Her work has appeared in numerous juried exhibitions and group shows including those of the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York City, and the Hudson Valley Art Association. She is represented in collections throughout the New York region as well as nationally.
Phyllis is a member of the Mamaroneck Artists Guild, the Scarsdale Art Association, the Garrison Art Center, Greenwich Arts Council and Westchester Arts Council. Memberships include the Oil Painters of America, Lower Hudson Valley Plein Air Painters chapter of the New York Plein Air Painters, and Artists in the Parks.
During the years that she worked as an illustrator, Phyllis’s work appeared in Reader’s Digest and other magazines as well as on young adult book covers, in textbooks, and in advertising and promotional literature for major corporations.
