Artist Peter Van Every

An example of fine art by Peter Van Every

I have been shooting photographs since forever. My inspiration is my wife, the amazing artist Peggy Ellis (www.peggyellisart.com); daughter of famed artist Ray Ellis. We continually collaborate and encourage each other’s creativity.
It was my Dad who got me started with a Brownie camera. Soon he taught me about composition, f-stops, film speeds, range finders, light meters, dodging, cropping, lighting, developing and printing my black and white film. He was a great journalist and photographer. I especially love the photographs he took in the mid 1950's with a 3-D camera.
And it was my Dad who volunteered my services for a few days as a bag carrier for Henri Cartier Bresson who was retained by Sports Illustrated Magazine to shoot the World Series in Milwaukee. Although Cartier Bresson took hundreds of photographs over several days, I never will forget that he took very few of baseball players! He was all about life, candid pictures of people, motion, emotion, and lighting. He said his photographs were merely his gut reactions to fleeting situations that he happened upon. Me too! And, I am thrilled to now own Cartier Bresson’s 1944 photograph of Henri Matisse.
