The Artist Says:

I have an infinite love for the Australian landscape, particularly the Wilderness of Tasmania, the state where I now enjoy residing. Prior to moving here from the Queensland in 2015, I painted the colourful, abundant birdlife of the subtropical rainforests. One can view these at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, Lamington National Park, in the Gold Coast hinterland. My hope is to inspire protection of these stunning areas and creatures via my paintings. I also enjoy capturing the personalities of people’s “fur babies” among other animal and have received many commissions.

After realising my life dream when I graduated from Griffith University Qld - B of Visual Arts, I applied myself to expanding my technique as a Contemporary Impressionist. This style allows me the freedom to interpret what I see with a lively personal approach. I fill the canvas vibrant light and colour but also lead the viewer to appreciate the quiet cool shadows thrown by orange rocks at the Bay of Fires, the craggy peaks of Cradle Mountain or the beautiful beaches and multi-coloured gardens and woodlands close to my home at Carlton outside of Hobart. Each painting has textured brushwork to demonstrate the ruggedness of the ancient rock formations and nature’s intricacies.

These works are created with unique Australian-made Artist Quality oils and acrylics which resist cracking and fading for generations to come.

Having recently returned from the west coast of this magnificent island state, I am bursting to start a series of the magic forests, craggy mountains and reflected waters Macquarie Harbour and the Gordon River.

Biography

“While I am creating a painting I experience a flow of vitality like no other.
While I am creating, my whole being is absorbed into the canvas and medium.”
Pauline Johnson

Pauline Johnson has had a decade's long love affair with Tasmania, Australia, so she recently moved from Queensland. She has loved exploring the Australian bush since childhood which has developed into her passion for studying the effects of nature's light as it plays on this amazing country. Pauline uses a vivid, colour-filled palette with relatively loose brush strokes to depict the landscapes and animals that capture her interest. She often adds texture to paintings using acrylic gel, sand, pumistone and modelling paste enjoying the tactility of the medium.

Graduating in 1995 with a B of Visual Arts in Interior Design, Pauline has concentrated on developing her skills as a professional artist. Acrylics and oils are now her mediums. She has since taken many classes with award-winning artists in person and online. No artist finds marketing easy but Pauline is constantly developing her business through internet courses, social media and her website.

Pauline endeavours to increase the importance of protecting Australia’s unique environment and animals by creating Tasmania's rugged landscapes, pristine oceans and beaches and native wildlife. She has discovered she doesn’t have to travel far to find inspiring subjects from local beaches and Bay of Fires to the craggy outcrops of Cradle Mountain and the West Coast of Tasmania

These depictions have won awards including the juried Caldera Art Award. Many of her works are now in USA, Canada,  Europe, UK, Australia and New Zealand.
