Bio: I grew up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio which is a small town on the East side of Cleveland. It's beautiful there but  I left to "explore the world" in my early twenties. I spent some time in the Virgin Islands and in 1990 ended up in Colorado on my way to California. I fell in love with the mountains and have never left. I met my beautiful wife Tina in Colorado and we raised two awesome boys, Zach and Conrad. Much has contributed to my outlook on life, including time spent as a competitive rugby player, a professional beekeeper, a mountaineer, a stand up paddleboarder, a fisherman, and my years working as a professional house painter and cabinet finisher. As a career house painter I always joked that I was an "artist". I painted on canvas for my first time in 2006 and in 2013 I felt confident enough to show my paintings to the public and did my first solo show at the Evergreen Cafe in Buena Vista, CO. I hung 20 paintings and sold 4. I continue to grow as a painter and develop my skills in an effort to become a full time professional artist.
Statement: Artists gravitate towards methods and materials that suit their personalities best. I have gravitated to "alla prima" or "direct" painting both in plein air and in the studio. I love the challenge of capturing the moment and telling a story in a short amount of time. It is the quickness and urgency of this practice that allows me to extract the essence and vitality of the subject matter while at the same time feeding my soul with the vital energy generated from this style of painting.
