I left a senior corporate position in 2000 to start my own visual art business, Flower Soup Mosaics. I created original artwork and custom art pieces from small portraits to kitchen murals. I also taught classes for adults and children all over the Triangle area. Some of the success that I enjoyed over the years includes television appearances on HGTV and PBS, an Emerging Artist Grant, some juried show awards, published work, and in 2012 I created a cow for the NC Cow Parade, one of my very favorite projects. The local art community is a tight one, and I have made many friends whom I admire for their personalities and talent.
After some deep reflection, I decided to go to graduate school in 2014. I selected the Master's of Interactive Media program at Elon University. The program itself covers many subjects from coding to graphic design, but my particular interest is in User Experience (UX). There's something about exploring how things work that intrigues me. It's a bit like taking apart a radio or toy to see how it works. Break it down and see if you can make it better. Because I have been a writer all of my life, communicating the results of research is just as important as the outcome. I'm a big fan of data visualization and it's role in communicating data as well. A strong visual makes a great impact.
