I grew up in Austin Texas with parents who had an appreciation of fine art. My dad was a home builder and my mother a homemaker that loved to entertain and have beautiful things surrounding us. She played the piano by ear so it was easy to have music in the house at a moments notice. Both parents were creative, my mother in watercolor and my dad in design. One of my early memories is being restless in church and having either parent draw something for me to keep quiet.
I took one piano lesson and knew playing the piano was not for me. My sister stayed with her lessons much longer. Painting was my interest. So in middle school and high school I took art lessons after school and went on to get a fine arts degree from Abilene Christian University. I pursued graphic design, painting furniture, murals and stage sets but finally realized my heart was on the canvas. In 2014 I quit my job and set out for the Hill Country to fulfill my dream of sitting in front of a canvas daily and painting.
My family also had a great appreciation of nature. Daddy was always bringing in a stray dog or even a goat or fawn to be taken care of. They purchased some property on Lake Travis outside of Austin and we spent many happy weekends being outside and enjoying the sights and smells that come from country living. It was here and trips to New Mexico and Colorado that I knew I wanted to paint what was around me. Central Texas and the Hill Country provide wonderful subject matter for my paintings. Landscapes, skyscapes and sunsets have become some of my favorite subjects.
