Artist Pat Staehr

An example of fine art by Pat Staehr

What a beautiful world we live in!  As an artist, I am blessed to be able to interpret what touches me visually and emotionally, whether a landscape, still life, or portrait, and to try in some small measure to translate this subject to canvas or paper so that the viewer will see its beauty too.  My style is impressionistic yet realistic and my paintings attempt to capture the light, color, and sparkle I see in my surroundings.  Color and contrast especially resonate with me.  My hope is that someone will look at my paintings and want to step into the world I’ve created to see what is around that bend in the road, where that path leads, or lean over and smell the flowers on the table.  A lifetime is not enough time to paint.
A native of the Midwest, I grew up on a farm near York, Nebraska.  After receiving my Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Nebraska in 1982 and completing an obligation to the Navy, I settled in Virginia and practiced as a family physician for over 20 years.  My art education has largely been informal but I continue my art training with workshops taught by nationally known artists such as Kim English and William Scott Jennings.   I am a member of Oil Painters of America and the Portrait Society of America.  My work has won several Best of Show awards and my paintings are in private collections around the country.
