I have been illustrating, drawing and painting for approximately 30 years as part of my professional work, but primarily for my own pleasure. After taking a year of courses in the Introductory Design program at the Nova Scotia College of Art in 1976 I was a technical illustrator at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography for 6 years. During the next twenty-five years I followed a rather ad hoc programme of art training that enabled me to be active in art while raising my family.  
I am now able to devote myself full-time to making art and recently I completed a Visual Arts Certificate in Studio programme at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. My work is largely representational and, while much of my early work was in watercolour, during the past 10 years I have fallen in love with pastels – the rich colour and sparkling clarity that can be obtained by working in pure pigment is tremendously exciting. I generally work on sanded paper, preferring a horizontal, elongated format but recently I have experimented with large format panels (up to 3 x 5 ft). I enjoy painting seascapes and have done a number of boat ‘portrait’ commissions. I also make relief prints and recently completed a print installation of 6 panels, each 80 inches high.
In 2010, 2013 and 2015 I had work accepted for the Purely Pastel Shows in Toronto and Vancouver.  My work was featured in a solo show at the Saint Margaret’s Sailing Club in 2010 and joint shows there in 2012 and 2013. I have also had pieces accepted in 12 other juried events. In 2015 I achieved Signature status with Pastel Artists of Canada and in 2016 I was successfully juried in to Active Status with the Federation of Canadian Artists For the past [...]
