Biography

Art is my passion, it's who I am. It portrays my emotions and love of nature. I grew up in Connecticut watching my artist/sign painter mother paint seascapes, cityscapes, portraits and signs for the Ritz Ballroom. I would sit by her, drawing my version of her scene.  I continuously delight in painting landscapes or ramble-scapes, whether NYC cobblestones, country lanes or sheep paths which depict my desire to hit the road for new vistas. Painting en plein air brings a compelling immediacy to the work, painting the local color with no time to chase the light. My oils and pastels also include still life, interiors and figurative paintings.

After receiving a BA in Fine Arts, I continued studying at the School of Visual Arts and Silvermine School of Art. Workshops with various acclaimed artists, including Randall Sexton and Nancy Guzik in oils and Daniel Greene and Albert Handel in Pastels is motivating.
Having also studied graphic design and architectural engineering, I've been an architectural illustrator for over 30 years.  I am a founding member of High Street Painters in Brattleboro, Vermont, a painting group of dedicated New England artists. We meet several times a month with a model. It inspires my creativity along with great art discussions and some dancing thrown in.

Selected recent awards: Plein Air Salon Online Aug/Sept 2016 Show - Best Landscape Award and Salmagundi Club 135th Members Exhibition - Art Spirit Foundation Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Pastel 2016. My pastel painting "Black Canyon of the Gunnison" was in Western Art Collector Magazine honoring the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service.

I've lived in Redding Ct for the past 31 years and often head to Colorado to visit 2 of our kids and paint the mountains and mesas.
