Biography


When asked, "When did you become an artist?" Norm Worth's reply is, "I never remember not being an artist." "I have been creating art all of my life."  As a young child Norm  discovered his natural talent while reproducing the drawings of cartoons from the local newspaper and comic books. When his family moved from the East Bay to Pacifica in Northern California he was further inspired by a teenage neighbor who introduced him to the more mature cartoons popular in the mid 1960's. He was hooked! As a child and young adult in a large and chaotic family he always felt a a need to express himself through his art for both relaxation and as an outlet for creativity. His first public achievement came in high school when his cartoon was selected for the school newspaper.
 
Upon graduation, Norm joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country during the end of the Vietnam War. He put his art aside as he raised his two daughters as a single father. Once his daughters were grown he was able to revisit his passion for drawing and enrolled in college art classes. Later he met his mentor Alfredo Di'Anunzio who was a teacher and a life long artist when he came into Norms art supply store and custom picture framing business in San Leandro California. Norm would drive the two of them to various bay area locations to sketch and paint. He discovered the beauty and malleability of oils as a medium and has been painting with oils for over 23 years. He is interested in the beauty of simplicity and loves to experiment with subject and medium. His art imitates the natural vibrant colors in nature.
