Nina Skov Jensen is a self-taught, Danish artist specializing in pencil and oil portraits. She is also a royal portraitist, having painted H.R.H. Princess Marie of Denmark (pictured above). In 2021, Nina will start her bachelor at Harvard University where she will study the arts among other subjects.
Nina started drawing when she was 12 years old, inspired by the celebrities she saw on TV and in movies. She became known for meeting the many celebrities she drew, among them Adele, Harry Styles, and Robert Downey Jr. (as Iron Man).
When Nina was 14, she was discovered by renowned art collector, Beth Rudin DeWoody, while drawing Henry Cavill in the streets of London. DeWoody convinced her to pursue the arts on a professional level. Nina would later have her art featured in an exhibition in Los Angeles curated by DeWoody.
In 2016, Nina was approached by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, DR, and asked to participated in the award-winning documentary series, “Extraordinary People” (De skjulte talenter), due to her remarkable talents in the arts. Around the same time, Nina moved away from celebrity portraits and started exploring her artistic identity. She initiated a period of self-reflection which produced artworks such as “Grandfather’s Shirt”. The artwork was featured in the exhibition “Really? Curated by Beth Rudin DeWoody” in Los Angeles.
In 2018, Nina made her first oil painting, which was a commissioned portrait of the previous Commissioner of the Danish Police, Thorkild Fogde. The painting is part of one of the oldest and most complete portrait collections in Europe, with works dating back to the 1600s. Nina’s second oil painting was of H.R.H. Princess Marie, who invited Nina to the royal palace Amalienborg for a private showing of the piece. It is currently part of the princess’ private collection.
