Nina Seigenfeld Velazquez studied fine art with a concentration in painting at the School of Visual Arts from 1979-83.
In 1983 she left SVA and co-founded New Math Gallery with fellow SVA student, Mario Fernandez. New Math was one of the premier art galleries during the 1980s East Village art movement.
New Math Gallery closed in 1986 and Nina took a hiatus from the art world in order to raise her 6 children. Nina has been activly making work since 2005 after the birth of her 6th child. She has exhibited work in several group exhibitions in the tri state area and has curated several themed group exhibitions throughout the greater N.Y. area. She has served as the curator of Gallery 18 at the Riverdale Y from 2006-2008.
Nina has written about art for several publications includingthe SVA Alumni Journal, Fine Arts Magazine and Nova Gallery.
In November of 2012 Nina had a one woman show of 400 post it drawings titled What's Mine Is Yours at the Riverdale branch of the N.Y.P.L. The exhibit was reviewed in the Riverdale Press.
An exhibit of recent photographs titled Something Lost, Something Gained took place at An Beal Bocht Cafe in November of 2013. 
The artist says about her work: "  I am interested in finding something extraordinary in the small moments of our every day life."
