Biography


Education:
 
BA Art History, University of Texas at Austin
BS Interior Design, University of Texas at Austin
 
Growing up in Beeville, a small South Texas farming and ranching community, I was brought up with a deep love of and admiration for landscapes of the area along with the people, wildlife and plants that live there. After moving to Austin, Texas, for college I became deeply attached to the beauty of the lakes and hills of this region with their magical waters and long views.
From my roots in South Texas, my strongest influences have always been the visual environment of Texas ranches, State and National Parks in Texas, trips to Mexico, and the summer I spent there in 1966 studying Spanish at the University of the Americas in Mexico City. Also I have been fortunate to have been able to make several trips to Europe to visit art museums to closely observe the work of the Old Masters.
I have drawn and painted all my life and chose a degree plan in Fine Arts Department at the University of Texas at Austin after high school. I graduated with two degrees, a BA in Art History and a BS in Interior Design. I've attended workshops along the dramatic coastline of Maine, in and around Santa Fe, New Mexico, and at Laguna Gloria Art School in Austin.
Although the often extreme heat in my home town of Austin requires much of my work be done indoors in the studio, I most desire to be outdoors painting en plein air, from life.  Often I use the results as studies for more finished studio paintings.  Sometimes the results of a couple of hours painting stand on their own.
