A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Nicole Rosseland grew up having an interest in art at a very early age.  As a young girl she was greatly influenced by her father and grandfather who were both chiropractors.  She would spend hours looking through medical books and exploring her father’s office.  Fascinated by the illustrations and diagrams, x-rays, medical instruments and models; Nicole developed a keen sense of the human body.
In 1990 Nicole attended the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia.  She majored in illustration focusing on anatomy and medical illustration.  In 1993 she moved to Sarasota, Florida to take a job at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and to pursue a more personal path in her art.  She began dedicating herself to figurative painting while also gaining experience in botanical illustration, working from one of the largest collections of bromeliads and orchids in the world.  Her illustrations have been published in Bromelia Magazine and the Journal of the Bromeliad Society.  The garden’s beautiful and tranquil surroundings proved to be as inspirational as her father’s medical practice.
Nicole would return to Savannah in 1998 to continue her education, this time majoring in painting while also developing an interest in fine art photography.  This is when she began to meld images of the figure with nature and develop a somewhat classical yet surreal style that would become her trademark.  She graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in March of 2000 with a B.F.A. in Painting and now resides with her husband in Saint Marys, Georgia.  Here she works out of her private studio painting commissions and original oils while also offering art classes and private lessons.  When not teaching or painting, she’s working in the garden that surrounds her studio, which has become very [...]
