Biography

Nancy received her B.A. and M.F.A. degrees in Fine Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles and a PhD degree in Educational Psychology from Texas A & M University, College Station.  Classically trained, Nancy currently uses photography and digital painting to explore the aesthetics of the natural landscape. The colors are intensified, and the forms are abstracted to express the mystical qualities one experiences while absorbed in the beauty of nature.
In the past several decades there have been many scientific studies regarding the healing effects of spending time in wild and natural areas.  These include stress reduction, increase in immune systems, mental performance, creativity and better mood. It’s been noted that office workers display happier moods when surrounded by visuals of beautiful flowers. Nancy hopes that her works may have similar effects on viewers.
Works from her current series have been included in more than fifty regional and national exhibitions, including McNay Art Museum 2014 “Art to the Power of 10”; 2014 “Nuevo Arte” at the University of Texas San Antonio, 2014 “Spark” exhibition at San Diego Convention Center, and the 2015 12th International Conference Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualization, University of Barcelona,  and they have received many awards. They are included in several hospitals, health centers and corporate environments.  Nancy won the 2017 Texas Governor’s Committee on Disability’s artist award and her work was featured on posters that were distributed to 2500 state agencies.
Nancy has developed courses in visual design for colleges and universities and her publications include articles for the Association for Educational Communication and Technology, the International Visual Literacy Association and the Association for Advancement of Computing in Education.
