The Artist Says:

The first thing I do when I get up is to go outdoors to look at the light. Then I feed the cat.

I remember how exciting it was in kindergarden on those rare occasions when the teacher set up big easels for painting. Dipping a brush in an orange juice can filled with juicy tempera paint, how the paint ran down the paper---it was, and still is, a lovely sensual experience.

Today painting is so much more than just touching the canvas with a brush. There's a lot to think about: how all the formal elements, (shape, pattern, value, color and line), combine to create that almost indescribable character of saying something...what the painting is about.  It's such a wonderful thing to look at the way light falls on a landscape,  a figure, or a flower, that I am inspired every day to keep trying.
